“I’ve dreamed of exciting Casualty prosthetics!”

She’s played a doctor and a lawyer – and now Stirling is set to play a police officer for her new role in Casualty! She joins the drama this spring as Ffion, wife of paramedic Jan. And Ffion isn’t a world away from Stirling’s Corrie character, Paula… “She’s a blunt, wry, straight-talking woman, who is a fiercely loyal partner and friend, and does not suffer fools,” Stirling tells us. “Ffion loves her job as a police sergeant, and supports her community when off duty – but she has a clear line between work and family.”

Dream team

However, while Ffion may have many character traits in common with Paula, she’s thankfully much luckier in love, having been happily married to wife Jan for quite some time.

“She loves Jan with a strong heart,” confirms Stirling. “Their relationship is well seasoned, stable, honest and fun. While they are very different people, they sit well side by side.”

Dual role

This isn’t the first time Stirling has been in the emergency department of Holby City Hospital – and she’s hoping she may end up as a patient at some point…

“I have done Casualty three times, but never with the exciting prosthetics I dreamed of… blood pouring out, a leg hanging off, a neck brace!” she chuckles. “The unrequited wish list goes on!” And Stirling assures us that this isn’t the end for Corrie…

“I’m still heading back and forth to the lovely cobbles,” she reveals, “but Paula’s fate is in the lap of the Corrie gods!”
