Dan collapses after helping Brenda

There’s horror in the café kitchen this week, as Brenda asks hungover Dan to help her make the sandwich wraps – and he takes a terrible turn soon afterwards!
Brenda ropes in Dan after he turns up at the café without his wallet, and she suggests he give her a hand to clear his debt. But the pair are set to seriously regret their actions when Dan collapses and is rushed to hospital…
“This will be life-changing for Dan,” admits Liam Fox, who plays him. “He’s had an adverse reaction to one of the wrap ingredients. Unbeknown to him and Brenda, there are almonds in the mayonnaise, which Dan is allergic to. So when he bites into the wrap once he’s back at the garage, he gets this itch in his mouth and it’s pretty horrendous.
And then he keels over.”
Fortunately, Dan’s able to get to his phone – however, he’s in agony by the time an ambulance arrives. And while he’s receiving treatment in hospital, Brenda’s in pieces about the fact that she could have sent Dan to an early grave.
“Dan has suffered a reaction to something before, but not as bad as this – and Brenda wouldn’t have been aware,” says Liam. “Food allergies is a subject which has been in the news of late. Brenda doesn’t realise Dan has an issue with the almond milk in her mayo, though, and his reaction this time is on an epic scale. So her response is total panic.”
As she rifles through the ingredients she uses in her wraps, Brenda can’t help but fear the worst. In the
meantime, however, it’s not looking good at all for extremely poorly Dan…
“He’s very ill, and Brenda’s feeling lots of guilt,” shares Liam. “At first, Dan is really angry with her, even though it’s an accident. But his allergic attack is going to kick off a chain of events which, further down the line, are going to be very challenging for Dan. I can’t really say too much about what it is right now, although it’s a long-term consequence which is really going to change his life…”
While Brenda takes stock of the nightmare situation, which could well destroy her business and her reputation in the village she calls home, the future of Dan’s wellbeing is left hanging in the balance. Can a total catastrophe be avoided for either of them – or are they headed for tragedy?
