David hooks up with Alina
SHONA WANTS A DIVORCE – SO HE HOOKS UP WITH ALINA…
All hell breaks loose in the Rovers this week, after jealous Seb finds out that David has been putting the moves on his ex-girlfriend, Alina, and wallops him!
The drama kicks off after David’s wife Shona – who is still suffering from amnesia – informs David via her social worker that she wants to end their marriage.
For David, this is a bitter blow, as the odds of Shona regaining her memory look bleaker than ever – prompting her heartbroken husband to make some poor decisions…
“David is breaking down – this is really affecting him,” sighs actor Jack P Shepherd, who plays the heartbroken husband. “He doesn’t know what to do as he can’t even get to Shona to speak to her.”
At the start of the week, David is horrified to discover that she is in contact with her jailbird son, Clayton Hibbs. While David knows that Shona vowed never to see Clayton again after she was forced to stab him in self-defence, his troubled wife has no recollection of the incident.
“Shona remembers that Clayton is her son – that is the earliest memory she has,” explains Jack. “But when Clayton realises that Shona is unable to remember anything else, he uses it to his advantage, and tells his mum the reason they don’t speak any more is because David made her push him away. This, combined with her memory loss, makes Shona not want to see David.
“David books a visit to see Clayton in prison to tell him to leave Shona alone, yet the shoe is on the other foot now,” adds the star. “Shona wants nothing to do with David, as she doesn’t remember him. Why would Shona believe a complete stranger over her own son?”
David is breaking down – and looking for comfort in the wrong places…”
As his marriage hangs by a thread, desolate David masks his pain by insisting that Shona’s done him a favour. Hitting the booze, David drowns his sorrows in Victoria Gardens, where he finds Alina and offers her a drink.
“David is on a downward spiral, so when he sees Alina – who is also feeling vulnerable – they strike up a friendship,” shares Jack. “It’s a rebound situation as, ultimately, David does want to be with his wife, but he is not getting any affection from her. It’s a bit like the time David got together with Emma shortly after his rape. He looks for comfort in the wrong places.”
Soon, news of David and Alina’s afternoon together becomes public gossip, and her former fella Seb wastes no time in calling out David on his behaviour – reminding David that he is a married man. And as David gravitates towards pressing the self-destruct button just a little bit more, he welcomes Seb’s fury.
“David puts on a front and goads Seb into hitting him,” grimaces Jack. “So Seb punches David in the face!”
After Nick prises the pair apart, he urges his brother not to give up on Shona. However, is David fighting a lost cause?
