Gemma abandons the quads!
AS SHE BREAKS DOWN, CHES RUSHES TO THE RESCUE…
Overwhelmed new mum Gemma puts her babies in danger this week, when she rushes off a bus and leaves them on board!
Horrified Chesney witnesses the shocking incident, and chases after the bus to rescue the quads. It’s in that moment he finally realises the extent of poor Gemma’s despair and that she needs help right now.
“Chesney is completely out of his depth, and immediately calls Bernie,” explains Sam
Aston, who plays the struggling dad. “They both try to talk to Gemma, but she gets upset, refuses to speak to them and storms out of the house. Ches is worried sick, yet when Gemma returns, having spoken to Rita, she at last tells him how bad things have got and that she is a terrible mother.”
For weeks, Gemma has been consumed by fear and anxiety, struggling alone and trying to put a brave face on the situation. But her mask slips when she gets on the bus with her children. Suddenly overwhelmed by a wave of anxiety, she flees the bus and doesn’t think about taking the babies with her. Thankfully, Chesney is able to step in, yet it’s a stark reminder that if they don’t do something, a situation like this could end in tragedy.
“Chesney is filled with fear as all he sees is Gemma get on the bus with the quads, and then suddenly get off alone,” explains Sam. “He has to run after the bus to rescue the babies. Bernie told him to keep an eye on Gemma, but
Ches sees Gemma get off the bus without the quads and chases the bus!”
the real problem is that
Gemma doesn’t want to open up – she’s in total denial. Because Bernie didn’t tell him about the true nature of her concerns, Chesney didn’t push it, so he’s been in the dark.”
There can be no mistaking the problem now, though, so Chesney is thankful when Rita is finally able to get through to his struggling fiancée. The two friends spend some time talking in Victoria Gardens, as
Gemma pours her heart out to Rita and receives sage advice from the Weatherfield veteran.
Gemma explains that she’s been battling her dark thoughts and can’t cope with the quads and what they need from her as a mum. On returning to the family home, Chesney is loving and supportive as Gemma expresses her inner torment. Then he takes her straight to the medical centre to seek advice and help from Dr Gaddas, hoping that she can suggest a way for Gemma to move forward.
“This is a real test for them as couple, but they are all in this together,” explains Sam. “The road ahead is going to be tough for Chesney and Gemma, but now they know what she’s been going through, they are better equipped to help her.”
