Home and Away’s Ethan Browne tells us all about the elusive Tane…

The Parata family has certainly caused a stir since arriving in the Bay – and this week, Ari comes to blows with his younger brother, Tane! Newcomer Ethan Browne tells us why his alter ego has been cast out by the clan…

Hi, Ethan! Can you tell us a bit about Tane? What’s he like?

Tane is a very determined young man, he does his own thing and won’t let anyone tell him what to do – especially his older brother, Ari! However, he’s really kind and loving deep down. He puts on a tough guy persona, but in a way he’s very broken.

Ari thinks that Tane is a bad influence on their nephew, Nikau. Do you agree?

I can understand why he thinks that. Ari knows that Tane does dodgy things to make a living, because that’s what Ari used to do. So I guess Ari is worried that Nikau’s going to follow in Tane’s footsteps, in the same way that Tane followed in his…

Will Tane shake up the Bay?

I think so! He’s definitely the new kid on the block, and when he turns up, everyone is like, “Who is this guy?” He starts eyeing up potential girlfriends and love interests! So I think he does spice things up a bit – especially for his brother Ari.

What has your Home and Away experience been like so far?

It’s been absolutely awesome! I was in my first semester of drama school when I got the job. So the transition was instant, straight into work – and I couldn’t be more grateful. Everyone is so lovely, and it’s just such a cool job. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like work at all.

And what’s it like being a part of the Parata family?

It’s great! We auditioned together, then the other three began the next week, but I didn’t start until a couple of months later. We all grew up in New Zealand and had a Maori upbringing, so we all understand each other really well, and they helped me settle in. We get along just like an actual family!
