Ben bungles Phil’s big job!

BUT WILL PHIL BE ABLE TO SAVE HIS SON FROM DANGER?

- Sarah Ellis

Ben’s determination to impress his dad lands him in a grave situation this week – when he ends up with a gun pointed in his face!

Having lost most of his hearing during the boat party disaster, Ben is adamant that he’s still capable of taking part in the warehouse robbery. So after Phil bans him from the job he’s planning with Danny, Ben turns up anyway…

“Ben is eager to prove to himself, more than anything else, that he can do it,” explains star Max Bowden, who plays him. “Of course, he wants to impress his father too – Ben already feels as though Phil is judging him because of his hearing loss – so he wants to do everything he can to be the strong Ben that he has always been.

But as usual, he tries too hard, and gets everything wrong!”

In the lead-up to the job, Ben has been struggling to grasp the finer details of what’s going on, due to his partial hearing. However, he cocks things up good and proper when he presents his dad with a gun in case things go wrong – leaving Phil fuming.

“The gun is a very silly move under any circumstances,” points out Max. “For Ben, it’s a way of showing that he’s not weak, yet actually, it proves the opposite – because a gun shouldn’t be needed. He’s trying to overcompensate. And he’s left feeling so angry when Phil tells him he’s off the job.”

Needing something to channel all his frustration into, Ben decides to get to the bottom of what’s going on between Jay and Lola. After

finding out that Lola had a termination – citing him as the main reason – Ben is furious, and drags her out of the hairdressers for an explanation. So imagine his shock when she confesses that she slept with Peter behind Jay’s back!

“The Lola and Peter thing is obviously upsetting, because of Ben’s relationship with Jay,” shares Max. “But more than that, it’s just another thing to take his mind off the fact that he’s feeling so weak and vulnerable – it’s an outlet for the anger he’s feeling right now.”

At a loss, Ben decides to drown his sorrows, and heads to The Prince Albert. However, he is soon thrown into action when he spots his dad and Danny setting off

for the job, and realises that they’re being pursued by a suspicious-looking van…

“Ben is still fuming about the whole Lola and Peter situation, and is searching for any kind of distraction,” reveals Max. “Following the vehicle is a spur-of-themoment decision. Ben’s not necessarily trying to get involved in the robbery, it’s more of a feeling of ‘I can do anything, even if other people don’t think I can!’”

However, things go horribly wrong for Ben when he arrives at the warehouse – seeing him end up with a gun pointed in his face! So who exactly is in charge of the weapon? And could Ben pay the ultimate price for ignoring his dad’s wishes and getting involved in the heist?
