Harriet misses meeting the bishop – for lust with Malone!

SHE SWERVES A MEETING WITH THE BISHOP FOR LUST WITH MALONE…

- Kate White

Harriet is terrified about being found out – she knows it won’t end well!”

Harriet fails to show up for an important meeting with the Bishop this week – after finally confessing that she’s having doubts about marrying Will. In turmoil, Harriet can’t face sitting down with her boss to discuss the nuptials. Instead, she meets secret lover Malone in the vestry. She’s adamant that their affair must stop, but Malone refuses to leave the village. Could Will be close to discovering that the woman he wants to marry is romantically entangled with his arch- enemy? Katherine Dow Blyton (Harriet) is here to tell us more…

Hi Katherine, we think Harriet’s playing with fire right now. Is the pressure getting to her?

It’s getting very stressful! Harriet loves Dawn and Lucas, and she’s fooling herself that if she can just make this work with Will and pretend the thing with Malone never happened, then she can recreate this family that she’s always wanted.

Why doesn’t she just break off the engagement to Will?

She doesn’t want to hurt anyone, and she doesn’t want to risk her family. There is so much at stake that she is trying to convince herself it’s the right thing to do. I think the very fact she has had relations with another man sort of makes everything else a little flimsy.

She misses her meeting with the Bishop this week to see Malone. Is she scared about being found out?

Yes, she’s terrified. Like she always says to Will, a little lie seeps into a big lie. And here she is just doing exactly the same thing that she’s been berating Will for. She’s getting herself in quite a muddle, so I think she knows it won’t end well, whatever the end will be.

She tells Malone to get out of Emmerdale, but ends up back in his arms. What do you think the fallout

will be when the affair is finally revealed?

I think Harriet’s friends and parishioners will be upset, and that’s fair enough because she is having an affair and it’s with a bent copper! She’s battling already because everyone took a while to accept her and Will as a couple – he tried to kill her with a coffin after all!

Are you excited about the affair being rumbled?

Yes, it will be very dramatic once it all comes out. When lockdown happened, we’d finished the first part of the roller-coaster ride, and now it’s time to get the momentum going again, so we can start screaming, ‘Do you want to go faster?’

Harriet really seems to love a bad boy, doesn’t she?

Who doesn’t love a bad boy? Let’s face it, there’s not a great deal of choice in that village! Harriet just thinks that she can save them and put them on the right road. She’s doing a sort of public duty!
