Geoff wants to drop the charges – but is it part of his scheming?

BUT IS THIS ALL PART OF HIS SCHEMING?

- Laura-jayne Tyler

Geoff hopes to regain control of Yasmeen this week, by offering to retract the original statement that he made to the police accusing her of his attempted murder! After intercepting a call from Yasmeen when she rings Alya from prison, Geoff offers to drop the charges against her in return for getting help for his behaviour, and Yasmeen agreeing to be his wife again. But is he telling the truth? And will Yasmeen fall for him again? “Yasmeen hears Geoff’s voice and doesn’t put the phone down,” explains actress Shelley King, who plays her. “The sound of his voice calms her, in a way. When she hears him, it means comfort and security. Geoff says, ‘Listen, I still love you – I’m going to get professional help’. Yasmeen really wants to believe him, but isn’t sure whether she should or not…” As broken Yasmeen ponders Geoff’s offer, he takes matters into his own hands and visits the police anyway, explaining that he wishes to drop the charges. But he finds it’s not as simple as that, after detectives inform him that the decision now lies with the authorities. Meanwhile, Alya, Imran, Tim and Faye all try to make sense of Geoff’s sudden change of heart – before Yasmeen calls Alya from prison, and tells her she thinks Geoff is genuinely sorry! Is Yasmeen seriously considering taking him back? “Yes, because she says, ‘I don’t want to go to court, why should my life be made public to everyone?’” explains Shelley. “Yasmeen just wants to be left alone to carry on her life in her little community, which she has spent the past few years creating. She tells

Alya that she believes Geoff is sorry for what he’s done, although we don’t yet know what decision Yasmeen will actually make.” It’s clear that Yasmeen is feeling very conflicted as she opens up about her dilemma to fellow prison inmate Lucy, who hands Yasmeen a contraband phone and encourages her to give Geoff a call to show him who’s boss. “Yasmeen knows that Lucy has had problems in her own marriage, and she’s asked Lucy, ‘Why do you keep going back?’ and Lucy says to her, ‘I just do’,” shares Shelley. “So, Yasmeen knows that Lucy has experience and is learning from conversations with other women who have been in similar positions. Taking all of that in, Yasmeen calls Geoff – however, he knows exactly what to say. It’s a case of, ‘I promise I’m going to seek help’ yet again.” As Yasmeen ends the call, she’s still unsure what to think. Given that she has already given a not guilty plea in court, can the accused woman draw upon the same strength that she found then in order to send Geoff packing? Or will the psychological abuser succeed in manipulating his estranged wife all over again?
