Mackenzie’s love dilemma: will she ditch Ari for Tane?

Mackenzie is forced to admit that she has feelings for bad boy Tane this week – despite the fact that she’s dating his older brother, Ari! It’s been clear ever since Tane rocked up in town that Mackenzie is strongly attracted to him, even though she’s tried her best to push her feelings to one side. However, after she comes to blows with Tane’s latest squeeze, Mac is forced to face her feelings head on… “Seeing Tane with Amber causes all this jealousy that Mackenzie didn’t know she had,” explains Emily Weir, who plays the Salt boss. “Then they all go out to a club together, and some punches are thrown – which is the boiling point where Mackenzie is like, ‘Why do I care so much?’ She realises within that fight with Amber that she really likes Tane in that way, and that she’s got a bit of a problem on her hands!” Indeed she has, as she’s with Tane’s brother Ari – and the siblings have already had serious beef over her! So given that Ari is the sensible brother, who would undoubtedly give Mackenzie a secure future and everything she needs, why is she still so attracted to Tane? “Tane has a cheeky bravado, and the gift of the gab,” says Emily. “He flirts, he’s suave, and I think that’s Mackenzie’s usual type – add to that he’s totally gorgeous! So it’s maybe a case of what she’s normally attracted to versus what she needs.” Knowing that the details of her fight with Amber will soon get back to Ari, Mackenzie decides to bite the bullet and come clean to her man – confessing to him exactly how she feels about his brother! “Mackenzie is very moral, she would never cheat on Ari,” insists Emily. “It gets to the point where he starts to pick up on some tension between her and Tane, and asks her if there’s something going on – and Mac just can’t lie to him. She hoped to take her attraction to her grave, but she realises the right thing to do is be honest, and wear whatever consequences come her way.” So will Ari respect Mac’s honesty, and give her another chance? Or is this the end of the line for them? Either way, Emily tells us she’s had a blast acting out this explosive love triangle. “As an actor it’s been lots of fun to play, let me tell you!” she grins. “I thought it was such a fun idea, and I was thrilled.
“Mackenzie quickly realises that she’s been a bit selfdestructive, out of fear of opening up her heart to Ari,” adds Emily. “This whole thing makes her realise she has serious feelings for him, and that she wants to consider the possibility of a future with him.”
