BARRY BRINGS BOTH BUSINESS AND PLEASURE TO WALFORD...

-

One of our future Square favourites makes his presence felt this week, as Barry Evans – of small-time motor company Evans & Son – rocks up to sign a big-money contract with David Wicks.

At this point, Barry is more a sleazy, cheesy wheeler-dealer than the bumbling bozo we’ll come to know and love – but David only cares about this contract, which he thinks will will turn Deals On Wheels into an international concern. (Well, it’s more likely to secure a second branch in Romford, but you get the idea!) It seems as if the partnership is roaring into fifth gear – until Barry rather stalls the engine… There’s one condition to the deal: Barry’s dad, Roy – the Evans of Evans & Son – has taken a shine to David’s mum, Pat, and wants more than the contract signed, sealed and delivered…

On the other side of the Square, however, romance is the last thing on Pat’s mind. In fact, she’s been so run ragged since Frank scarperded without a trace, she’s barely had the time to light up a fag (SPOILER: she manages). This week, she adds running the Queen Vic to her ‘to do’ list, following Sharon’s flight to Florida to top up her tan. Her stand-in Michelle is making a mess of things, while landord Grant is in a post-sharongate sulk, which involves silently smirking from a corner table each time she drops a crate of slimline on her toe.

Meanwhile, Pat rolls up her sleeves, at least comforted that David has the deal sorted with Barry. So, Roy’s insistence that she join him for champers and oysters blindsides Pat. It may be a step up from a pint of Churchills and a pot of jellied eels, but will Pat take one for the team? Soon, David is tearing his mullet out trying to stop the deal going down the swanny.

PARENTAL RENTAL

Elsewhere, Carol would happily rip David’s entire head from his padded shoulders, such is her fury with him. She susses out that he’s been quietly paying Bianca’s rent on the flat she shares with Ricky. The deal was always that David stayed out of his secret daughter’s life – and as the shouting ensues, we’re edging closer towards Bianca finally learning the truth about her paternity…
