Amy Greenwood is back!
JACINTA STAPLETON, AKA AMY GREENWOOD, RETURNS TO NEIGHBOURS, AND SHE’S SOON UP TO MISCHIEF…
It was so strange – it’s been over 20 years, so it just felt crazy!” exclaims Neighbours star Jacinta Stapleton, as she talks to us about reprising her role as Amy Greenwood, who was last seen in 1997. “It was nostalgic, some of the crew were the same and, of course, there’s Ryan [Moloney, who plays Toadie], Fletch [Alan Fletcher, aka Karl] and Jackie [Woodburne, who plays Susan]. They were my friends back in the day, and are still on the show. I’m having so much fun!”
We first met Amy as a fun-loving student, and Jacinta tells us that her alter ego’s personality hasn’t really changed…
“What I will say is that Amy is not shy!” she exclaims. “She’s not a troublemaker, but she gets up to a bit of mischief, even though I don’t think she means to. Amy just runs on a high frequency. She has a lot of ideas and is very excitable – Amy’s a bit of a firecracker, so it’s fun to play.
“I was a bit out of the loop on Neighbours when I came back, although I had the
wonderful Eve Morey [who played Sonya Rebecchi], who now works as an acting coach on the show, and she ran through everything with me,” continues Jacinta. “There were all these new characters I didn’t know – however, Eve really gave me the lowdown on everything.”
Amy returns for an opportunity at Lassiters, and consequently meets Terese and Paul, who certainly don’t warm to her. However, Amy is determined to get on the pair’s good side…
“She’s been a flight attendant all this time, and the airline’s gone under – she’s lost her job, so she’s actually trying to start a new life,” says Jacinta. “I think for Amy, it feels as though she’s going home, and she feels safer knowing she’ll have a support network around her.
“Amy applies for the job of producing the new uniforms for Lassiters,” adds the actress. “When she meets Paul for the first time, she annoys him – but everyone annoys Paul. And I think Terese is just a bit bamboozled by her.”
Jacinta also teases that Amy could be in Ramsay Street looking for love, and soon ends up catching the eye of someone in particular…
“Aren’t we all looking for love?” laughs the star. “Amy’s just had two relationships break up, as both of her husbands turned out to be gay! So, I would say she’s definitely looking for ‘the one’. She gets along with Shane well, he’s very helpful, and I think they have some good chemistry…” However, Amy also has a secret that might well jeopardise her future on Ramsay Street. What could she
possibly be hiding?
