Hendrix begins gambling…

HENDRIX JOINS THE GAMBLING SCENE IN ERINSBOROUGH…

- Alice Penwill

Hendrix quits his job at Lassiters this week – and in desperate need for cash, he attends some blackjack games.

Since Hendrix’s dad Pierce left Erinsborough, the teen has been trying to find his feet, and joined the Lassiters team. However, left to his own devices, Hendrix accidentally hurts Terese, which ultimately leads him to leave his job…

“Hendrix hates being told what to do, especially by Paul,” explains Benny Turland, who plays the youngster. “So he’s sent to work in the laundry room where, let’s face it, he hasn’t had much experience. And when things don’t go his way, Hendrix gets frustrated and kicks stuff. Terese ends up locked in the laundry room – and it’s all Hendrix’s fault!”

Terese is rushed to hospital, although David declares she’ll be fine with rest. But Hendrix is riddled with guilt, and admits to Harlow that he caused the accident. So knowing that Paul will fire him anyway, Hendrix decides to quit his job.

Hendrix is still desperate for money, though, as one of the conditions of him moving into the Kennedy house was that he had to pay rent. So he goes to Jay Rebecchi for help, who suggests Hendrix should get involved in blackjack games.

“Jay’s just looking out for his friend,” says Benny. “I think Jay looks up to Hendrix a bit and wants to help him out, and the only way that Jay knows how to make money is from playing blackjack. Hendrix loves the idea as it’s easy cash, he doesn’t have to do much work, and it’s a bit of a thrill.”

Hendrix is apprehensive about joining the game at first, but Jay encourages him to try it. Jay finds them a private game to join in the hope that they win big, but when they arrive, Hendrix realises it’s being hosted by his old nemesis – the man who organised the local fight club that Ned got into a while ago.

“It’s Kane who’s running the games – and he puts a lot of pressure on Hendrix,” reveals Benny. “No one else knows about the games either, they’re a total secret between Hendrix and Jay, and the pair want to make sure it stays that way.”

Benny hints that Hendrix could quickly run into money troubles, especially now that Pierce has moved away…

“This is the first time that Hendrix is being forced to take responsibility for his own actions,” he explains. “Hendrix just loves the thrill of it all, and of course, he loves money! I guess that’s how you manage to get caught up and develop a gambling problem…”

It might not seem like it, but it’s been over a year since

Hendrix loves the idea of easy cash – it’s a bit of a thrill!”

Hendrix first arrived on Ramsay Street. And Benny couldn’t be happier to have his own big solo storyline on the show.

“It’s very hands-on at the moment,” the star tells us. “But it’s been so much fun to really get deep into the character. Hendrix has had a lot of things happen to him, and it’s been so much fun to play it out with old cast mates, and new ones as well. I’ve actually been filming for a year-and-ahalf, and I’m still learning so much – every day there’s something different. I’m loving it, and I love playing Hendrix – there are just endless possibilities with the character.”
