WE’RE BACK ON SHIFT – THIS TIME WITH THE WOMEN OF THE NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE…

- Allison Jones

In honour of International Women’s Day on 8 March comes a preview of this new series following the women of the North Yorkshire Police, both on shift and off. The 10-part documentary (which follows later this month) shines a light on the realities of their extraordinary work…

“We follow women in a variety of roles across the force,” explains co-executive producer Dan Clark-Neal – himself a former police officer. “Detectives, call handlers, and senior officers at the top of the command line – North Yorkshire has a female Chief Constable, Lisa Winward. We also have access to the women away from work, which you don’t often see in a police series.

“We wanted to show that behind the uniform, officers are just like you and me,” he continues. “They’ve got their own lives and worries outside of the job, and you’ll get to know them as real people across the run.”

This sneak peek of series two (the first followed West Yorkshire Police) introduces us to constable Pauline – a grandmother with 18 years’ service – on a drugs raid; call handler Kathrine, who is a mum of four, and new recruit Emaleigh, who’s about to make her first arrest.

“Numbers of female recruits are on the up,” cheers Dan, who met his TV presenter husband Rylan after taking part in Big Brother in 2013. “There are more female officers in a variety of roles that in the past may have been male-dominated, so we hope that proves inspiring.

“There’s something special about getting to know these women,” he adds. “And by the end of the run, you’ll want to meet them again!”
