Cathy reaches breaking point
CATHY CAN’T TAKE IT ANY LONGER…
Distraught Cathy leaves partner Brian this week, in a desperate bid to protect him from the trolls tormenting her, after a wreath is delivered to the Kabin’s doorstep.
While it was her messages that kicked off the problem, Cathy is now suffering thanks to the combined efforts of her online haters, spurned on by vengeful Tracy and Amy.
Things get worse this week when Dev asks Cathy to stay away from the kebab shop until the customers calm down, and then she finds the chilling wreath on the Kabin doorstep.
After being bombarded with horrible messages, Cathy’s in a terrible state, prompting Brian to report her tormentors to the police.
“Cathy’s made a mistake, and she’s suffering the consequences,” says Melanie Hill, who plays her. “The whole situation has taken on a life of its own, and it’s terrifying. She starts pushing Brian away because she doesn’t want him or anyone else getting hurt.”
When Cathy realises how far things have gone, she tells Brian that there is only one solution – she needs to leave Weatherfield. He’s distraught at her pain and that she’s fleeing their home, although Cathy just won’t be talked round.
“Cathy’s whole life is going down the pan,” shares Melanie. “We’re showing that this can happen to anyone because social media is everywhere, and it’s so easy to let your thoughts out and have them hugely backfire on you!”
Worried sick, Brian gets ready to speak to the police again, this time to report Cathy as a missing person. Where has she gone, and will he ever find her?
MATTY HAS THE SUPPORT OF HIS LOVED ONES AS HE REACHES THE NEXT STAGE...
Brave Matty meets with a consultant to discuss having lower surgery this week, facing another big step in his journey as a trans man.
He confides in mum Moira that he has a consultation and assessment to go on the waiting list for the life-changing operation, and feels nervous.
Moira is there for Matty while the virtual appointment takes place, making sure that he feels supported as they discuss the next steps with his doctor. However, after the appointment finishes, Moira tells Matty that she’s worried he’s doing this for Amy’s sake, not his own…
“Matty is quick to put Moira right – Amy doesn’t even know he’s having the appointment,” shares our Emmerdale insider. “He knows that Moira doesn’t fully grasp what the surgery means to Matty and his future. How could she? His mother has been on a journey of getting educated about what it means to be a trans man, and she’s still learning.”
