Matty’s next transition step

Alison lifts the lid on what makes her alter ego tick…

-

Hi, Alison! How did filming this wedding compare to Peter and Carla’s first marriage in 2013?

Oh, this was nothing like last time – that huge wedding feels like a lifetime ago, doesn’t it? This time it’s very simple. Carla’s wedding dress was bought online, as it had to be something Nina could have made. It’s very 70s!

What is it that makes Carla so strong and keeps her going?

It’s a survival thing for her – Carla doesn’t know how to give up. After her psychosis, she feels as though she could survive anything.

Was she tempted to take the simple life with Lucas, do you think?

It’s funny, as a lot of women I know have said they would run off to Devon with Lucas at the drop of a hat – there is quite a queue! Now Lucas has the link with the factory, he could stay around and create havoc for Carla, and maybe some other women on the Street, but Carla is in love with

Peter. And Lucas was starting to frustrate her with his insistence that he knew what was best for her!

Do you enjoy Carla flexing her independence, especially when she’s in the factory?

Yes, I do. The beauty of Carla is that she is versatile, and I like everywhere she works, even when she fills in at the café. Though what I do like about the factory is the dynamic between her and Sarah. Because of everything that happened over Adam and their fall-out, the fact that they still work together is great. Carla swallowed as much as she could take from Sarah before she finally said, “I’m better at this than you, you all need me here – so just get on with it!” Carla still has balls, and I love that!
