The star spills the beans on his Emmerdale faves…

“Claire King [Kim] has played an evil witch for years, yet she’s lovely in real life. I don’t think I’d have had as enjoyable a time on Emmerdale if she wasn’t playing my mum. She helped me so much at the beginning. I didn’t know anything about the technical side of filming so – back when we were allowed to touch – she used to just sort of like move me mid-scene into the right position and stuff like that. I didn’t really realise at the time, but I’m so grateful now!”

“I have such a laugh with Lawrence Robb, who plays Mack, which is good as on set at the moment we don’t work with everyone, so it’s great to have a good dynamic with who you do work with. He’s such a lovely guy, and is doing a fantastic job as Mack. He came in interesting, it stayed interesting – and I think it will get even more interesting! The character of Mack is going from strength to strength.”

“I was quite in awe when I did my my first scene with Chris Bisson, and thinking, ‘Oh, my God – it’s Jai’! I used to watch him in Corrie [as Vikram Desai] with my gran, so he was one of those TV faces who had been around a long time. And he still looks 29 now – which is annoying because I look about 50!”

“I’d love more scenes with Jamie and Vinny, as I get on really well with Bradley Johnson – I think he’s brilliant! I’d actually like more scenes with the Dingles, although I don’t know how viable that is with all the TateDingle animosity as it is. But working with Jeff Hordley [Cain] and James Hooton [Sam] would be fantastic.”

“It would be so interesting to bring back Dave Glover [played by Ian Kelsey], maybe to finally settle the issue of Jamie’s paternity. We believe that Frank is Jamie’s father, although it was never completely set in stone. It would be amazing – I mean, I know he’s dead on the show, but that never really matters…”
