Chloe & Nicolette go public
APRIL ROSE PENGILLY TELLS US THAT SHE’S TOTALLY BEHIND HER CHARACTER’S NEW ROMANCE…
As everyone knows, I’m still very much ‘Team Chelly’ – I don’t want anyone to think I’m betraying the Chloe and Elly fandom!” gasps Neighbours star April Rose Pengilly, as we grill her about her character Chloe’s new romance with Nicolette. “But I definitely think that Chloe and Nicolette have a lovely connection as well, there’s a real sweetness to them as a couple. I’m always really happy and proud when I get the opportunity to portray a same-sex couple on Neighbours, and give fans that visibility that they’ve been crying out for.”
While many viewers may still feel that Elly Conway was Chloe’s true love, things have moved on – and this week, Chloe finally makes her relationship with Nicolette official! But there are a few hurdles to overcome before they get there, as Nicolette still refuses to believe that Chloe’s feelings for her are real…
“Nicolette is not initially very receptive, as she worries that Chloe is just reacting to her grief over losing her mum,” April tells us. “But there are genuine feelings for Chloe. They’ve had a strong connection as friends since they first met, and Chloe saw how wonderful Nic was at looking after Fay before she died. All of those things combined make Chloe want to take the leap to being more than friends.”
It’s not just Nicolette who’s concerned about Chloe’s true intentions, though – when Aaron suspects his sister may have feelings for the mother of his and David’s unborn child, he has serious reservations.
“Aaron tries to talk Chloe out of acting on her feelings,” reveals April. “He’s worried it will just be too messy with the pregnancy situation – he also believes that Chloe’s feelings aren’t genuine, and that she’s just being impulsive. But Chloe doesn’t see the baby as being a problem. It’s her brother’s child, so she’s going to be in the baby’s life either way.” Despite her brother’s words of warning, Chloe doesn’t give up, and her persistence pays off when Nicolette finally falls into her arms! However, with Nic’s mum Jane also having concerns about the romance, the girls are forced to conduct their passion away from prying eyes – and end up being busted in the middle of a secret rendezvous at Harold’s! “It’s been a sombre year for Chloe, but Nicolette brings out her fun side,” says April. “So I’m hoping there are some lighter moments to come for the two of them. It’d be nice to see Chloe let her hair down after all the difficult stuff.”
