Ethan’s mum lets him down
HIS MUM APPEARS TO LET HIM DOWN AGAIN…
Ethan’s reunion with his estranged mother doesn’t go to plan this week, after she fails to turn up for their meeting at the Woolie.
The pair have been texting since Meena provided Ethan with a contact number for his mum, after tracking her down through her medical records. It takes a lot of courage for Ethan to open his heart to the idea of seeing her, still haunted by the knowledge that his mum walked out on him when he was just a boy. So once she doesn’t show, he’s crushed…
“Ethan lives with the sense that two mothers in his life – first his birth mum, and then Manpreet – have left him, both when he was very young,” explains actor Emile John, who plays him. “So, he’s already feeling that he isn’t deserving of a mother’s love – and when his mum doesn’t show up at the pub, Ethan’s really hurt.”
Ironically, Ethan turns to Manpreet prior to the meeting, and asks her to go with him.
And when Ethan’s mum stands him up, it’s Manpreet who helps him to pick up the pieces.
“Manpreet is a huge support to Ethan,” reveals Emile. “She tells him in advance of the meeting that it all might not play out as he imagines after so many years – and she’s right. And irrespective of all the ups and downs they’ve been through, Ethan knows that Manpreet really does care about him. He trusts that she will be there to hold his hand.”
After Manpreet urges Ethan not to give up, he remarks that the one good thing to come out of this is that he and Manpreet have been able to get to know each other again. Meanwhile, Ethan texts his mother to demand an explanation as to why she stood him up…
“Ethan’s gutted when the reply says she doesn’t want to rekindle a relationship with him,” laments Emile. “He’s obviously really saddened by that and Manpreet, with her maternal instincts, realises that something is wrong. Meanwhile, Charles catches wind of something going on between them, and there is definitely going to be some tension there as to whether
Ethan knows that Manpreet really does care about him…”
Charles will be receptive to what Ethan has to say.”
Will Charles stand by his son’s wish to reconnect with his mother? And how will the good vicar feel about Ethan’s decision to confide in Manpreet over him?
