My Telly HEAVEN!
The final episode of Dodger – the all-star adventure series featuring those much-loved duckers and divers from Charles Dickens’ classic tale – wraps up on BBC1 this week. Saira Choudhry, who plays Nancy, shares the TV shows she ‘considers herself’ a big fan of…
What have you most enjoyed about being a part of
The incredible costumes, sets and my beautiful long wig of Nancy curls! It’s my first experience filming a period drama and so much fun. It feels special playing such an iconic character, but also creating something fresh and new.
What have you most enjoyed on TV recently?
I really liked The Responder
with Martin Freeman. The series is set in Liverpool – it was a nice change to hear so many Scouse and regional accents.
What are your fave comedy shows? It has to be BBC’s Cheaters, it’s so funny – and I enjoy Motherland, too.
What shows did you like growing up? I adored The Queen’s Nose, about a girl who had a magic coin – if she rubbed the queen’s nose on it, it granted her wishes. I also liked Byker Grove!
What about any kids’ cartoons?
The Raccoons
– Cyril Sneer is a legend! And
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, my brother got me into that show.
What programmes do you enjoy relaxing and unwinding in front of? Dragons’ Den – those Dragons know how to put people under pressure…
The last show you binge-watched? It was Chloe after I bumped into [series star] Erin Doherty at BBC Breakfast. It’s a brilliant psychological thriller.
Is there a particular TV personality who’s always inspired you?
Steven Bartlett from Dragons’ Den. Apart from him becoming a millionaire at age
23 from his bedroom, he’s rather inspiring on Instagram. He’s a wise man!
If you could be in any programme, what would it be?
I’d be in Netflix’s The One because I’m obsessed with dating shows. It isn’t a dating show, but a drama about a DNA kit that matches you with your ideal soulmate, opening a can of worms for those in relationships.
See on BBC1, Sunday – and on BBC iPlayer
