New recruits!
MEET CHIEF INSTRUCTOR RUDY REYES AND DS REMI ADELEKE AS THE MEGA-TOUGH CHALLENGE SERIES RETURNS…
SAS: WHO DARES WINS Channel 4 9PM
Hi, both! Tell us how your backgrounds mix things up this series… Rudy After years of combat while in the Marine Corps I was selected for elite Marine Recon training. I’m a paratrooper, a combat diver, a warfare expert… I have close-quarter battle experience in the most dangerous places on earth. Remi I served 13 years of active duty in the elite Navy SEAL programme. There are similar tones between our training process and the SAS programme, but it’s completely different – so I’m bringing the hard grit I’ve gained from my own experiences.
The recruits endure 11 days of SAS selection training at a base in the Middle East
– a big challenge! Rudy Just when you think there can’t be any more emotional impact, you see what they go through in this Black Hawk Down movie-style environment… Remi The extreme heat is a shock for the recruits!
Have fellow instructors Foxy and Billy welcomed you on board?
Remi They’re top-notch professionals. We’re trained to integrate with other units at the drop of a dime, and we’re already prepared for integrated warfare, so it all worked out really smoothly.
Why do you reckon the recruits volunteer? Rudy The series has created an environment for self-improvement and resolve – through pushing themselves they’ll develop a greater sense of pride and command in their lives.
What advice would you offer aspiring recruits? Remi Our military community has a saying: ‘Eat the elephant one bite at a time’. In other words, focus on one element at a time, or your brain will be overwhelmed… Rudy You need to condition – forget doing CrossFit and kickboxing, you need to be running and swimming. And get used to some heat!
