Knives out!

ANTON DU BEKE AND ANNE HEGERTY TALK US THROUGH THEIR LACK OF CULINARY SKILLS, AS THE CELEBRITY COOKING CONTEST RETURNS…

- Lynn Gibson

Eight more celebs have been paired up with a professional chef as we’re served up a second series of Cooking With The Stars this week. Among those donning their aprons are now-permanent Strictly

judge Anton Du Beke and The Chase’s Anne Hegerty. And as the pair tell Inside TV, they have a lot to learn…

“I’m not particularly adventurous in the kitchen,” admits Anne. “I’ll cook a bit for myself, the odd Chinese stir-fry, and that’s about it.”

“I really don’t cook,” concurs Anton. “My repertoire consists of all the dishes that my chef has just taught me!”

Along with presenter Josie Gibson, comic Joe Wilkinson, Love Island’s Maura Higgins, TV doctor Ranj Singh, exOlympic athlete Dame Kelly Holmes, and DJ Woody Cook, Anne and Anton will be trained by their mentors to create tasty courses that will be judged by their fellow pros. So how have the pair found working with their respective chefs?

“Jean-Christophe Novelli is very patient and supportive,” shares Anne. “He understands that if too much stuff comes firing at me then I’ll get confused.”

“Rosemary Shrager throws things!” chuckles Anton. “And the shouting: Jean-Christophe gets so angry and so French that you can’t understand him!”

“And they've been keen on teaching us knife skills,” adds Anne. “How to use them subtly and carefully, and using different ones for different things.”

So with our stars having learned new dishes, they know who they’d invite for dinner…

“I’d love to have Fred Astaire and Bruce Forsyth,” reveals Anton. “That would be nice.”

“I’d have [writer] Dr Johnson, [author] Rebecca West and Beethoven,” shares Anne. “Beethoven liked to eat a lot of food, but was very messy. I feel we’d have a lot in common!”

I’D INVITE FRED ASTAIRE AND BRUCE FORSYTH FOR DINNER”
