Final call

AS THE PUBLIC PICKS THIS YEAR’S BGT CHAMP, JUDGE ALESHA DIXON LOOKS BACK ON A BRILLIANT SERIES…

-

Hi, Alesha! How would you sum up Britain’s

Got Talent 2022?

It felt extra-special after a year away, we missed it terribly – everybody really appreciated being there again. It felt quite emotional looking out at the audience – you could feel the joy.

I felt so lucky to be there!

Which acts have really made the series for you this year?

I was completely blown away by Loren

Allred – it felt like a superstar had arrived. Obviously Flintz & T4ylor, who got my Golden Buzzer – I loved their friendship, and it was a powerful performance.

I also thought Keiichi Iwasaki’s magic was genius.

After the emotional roller coaster of the auditions, you must be excited about the final… We have the best seats in the house and get to sit back and enjoy the show. It’s the best of the best, and we’re rooting for everyone.

What’s the best thing about working with your fellow judges, Amanda, David and Simon? Sometimes when you meet people, you just click. We’re very different, personalitywise, but we all have a love of entertainment, and that unites us. We laugh a lot, that’s our secret. We have respect for one another, and genuinely enjoy one another’s company.

Are you able to call who the frontrunners will be? I’m never able to – it’s quite a difficult thing, so I’ve learned to stay openminded. The reality is that we’re spoiled for choice!

What does it take to win, would you say? Heart and soul, vulnerability, hard work and putting yourself on the line. It’s about making that human connection: we love hearing people’s stories and rooting for someone. The performers have just a few minutes to change the rest of their lives – so it’s about leaving your heart on the stage and not holding back!
