San Matteo, Saint Matthew’s Church

This distinct church in the late Baroque style is the centre of attention in Laigueglia, featuring beautiful art works that decorate its interior, donated to the church by notable local families.

Bastione di Levante

The 16th-century Bastion di Levante stands like a beacon on the sea front of Laigueglia. Built as part of a threetower defence against foreign pirates, it is the backdrop of the spectacular re-enactment of past events that takes place in the village every year.

Santuario della Madonna delle Penne

Perched on Capo Mele above the coastal road on the town’s edge is an unassuming small yellow church. Local folklore says the church was built as a place of worship by the Catalan fishermen who migrated here during the 12th century. Its Italian name is said to be derived from the original name it was given by the fishermen in the Catalan language (albeit now written in Castilian): Nuestra Señora de la Peña. Other than its historical importance, it is worth the hike up to the Sanctuary just for the view over the sea.

Nordic Walking Laigueglia Park

While a seaside resort, Laigueglia’s natural environment allows for outdoor activities of all kinds. Head for the hills for a spot of hiking and Nordic walking. There are six trails of varying difficulty on the Nordic Walking Laigueglia Park, providing scenic routes for you to explore.

Get on the bike

Cycling is another great way to explore the surroundings, whether it be a gentle coastal ride or a challenging climb up into the hills behind the town for some of the best views of the coastline. The hotels will be able to advise you on the best routes. The local bike rental Laigueglia Bike and Wellness has both traditional and e-bikes for hire. www.laiguegliabike.it
