Lake Garda and Lake Iseo
The western shore of Lake Garda from Sirmione to Limone sul Garda is part of Lombardy. Terme di Vallio is eight miles from Salò, a lovely small town on the lake. Visit Gelateria Pinguino Giallo on Corso della Repubblica for a fantastic ice cream or go for a boat ride across the lake. To travel from Salò to Sirmione takes about 75 minutes by boat and costs £9.80 one way (www.navigazionelaghi.it). Terme di Boario is 20 miles from
Lake Iseo. Monte Isola is one of two islands on the lake and there are some of Italy’s most beautiful villages such as Lovere, around the lake. www.visit-iseo.com
Cappella Suardi, Trescore
The 13th century Suardi Chapel was built inside the Suardi family villa in Trescore Balneario. Lorenzo Lotto was commissioned to paint frescoes on the walls and ceiling of the chapel in 1524. The large colourful frescoes depict the lives of Saints Barbara and Bridget and the martyrdom of Saint Barbara. In the centre is the figure of Christ surrounded by saints and martyrs. The Chapel is open between March and November with a guided visit costing £7 for adults. www.prolocotrescore.it

Luine Park rock engravings, Boario Luine Park above Boario Terme is part of Italy’s first UNESCO heritage site in Val Camonica. Luine Park is close to Boario and the sandstone rocks have large outlined figures and animals dating from 10,000 years ago.
