The team cut back the small brambles and briar growing in the open grassland areas and close-mowed a small bay at the edge of the woodland. This encourages some of the lowergrowing wild flowers and provides a pleasant place for people to sit in the summer. In addition, the work party gave one of the area’s ‘rough’ areas its regular trim. Finally, the group made a dry hedge and habitat piles from fallen wood along the woodland edge to provided habitat for beneficial insects and voles. Alison Dickerson gave a report from borough Cllr Hinder regarding the problem with lorries parking in Old Chatham Road. Some drivers are still ignoring the clearway signs and parking there. She is still ringing transport companies and some of the residents are speaking to the drivers and asking them to move on. The police have come out once and moved on seven lorries, if we had more enforcement by the police she is sure the drivers would soon get the message. She is in constant touch with Cllr Brazier (KCC Cabinet Member) and has kept him informed of everything that she thinks he should know that happens in the area. Boxley Parish Council, which Sandling is under, has a caretaker PCSO Trevor Knowles at present but he is also looking after two large wards and he was unable to attend the parish council meeting on November 3. The following crimes were reported in the Sandling area: three burglaries and one attempted burglary; a burglary other than a dwelling; assault in a public place; possession of cannabis. He reported that calls concerning the HGV’s in Old Chatham Road were still coming through but had reduced as the main complainants were aware that a number of proposals were being looked into to address the problems with the HGV’s parking in the road and associated issues this has brought with it. Alison Dickerson bought up at Boxley Parish Council meeting the old and tatty signs at the corner of Tyland Lane/ Chatham Road, the parish clerk will look into it. Also she asked if it would possible for Sandling to have gates similar to those leading up to Boxley Village on Old Chatham Road, to identify to cars and lorries that they are entering a village, maybe to increase consideration for residents. The matter will be discussed by the environment committee in November. The residents association had a cake table at Boxley Village Society fete at the Kent Scout Barn and raised £60. There will be a quiz in March 2015 and the Father Christmas Run will take place on Sunday December 21; more details will be included in the December Newsletter The next meeting will be December 2.
