Hewett keeps unbeaten record
Martin Hewett inspired Barming A to an 8-2 victory over Working Men’s D to put his side 10 points clear in Division 1 of the Maidstone & District Table Tennis League.
Hewett is now unbeaten in 18 games and tops the averages despite the best efforts of the highly-rated Chris Knight.
Working Men’s A kept up the pressure to stay second with a 9-1 win at Barming B.
Depleted Coxheath A battled hard for their 7-3 win over Kings Hill A while Kings Hill B lost 6- 4 to Working Men’s C.
A disappointing week for Kings Hill was capped off when the C team couldn’t raise a side, handing a 10- 0 win to Working Men’s B.
Barming D extended their lead at the top of Division 2 with a 10- 0 whitewash at basement boys Larkfield B.
Sutton Valence A were held to a 6- 4 victory against Barming F that featured yet another maximum for Nigel Hammond.
TT Traders played an earlier postponed match with Barming E and lost 7-3 but they did manage to draw 5-5 draw with Larkfield A to stay mid-table.
Coxheath C continue their rise up Division 3 after they beat Kings Hill D 9-1.
Trosley C remain top after an 8-2 win over Working Men’s G while Barming H sit second despite being restricted to six points at Sutton Valence B. Trosley B saw off Barming G 7-3 while Larkfield C beat Sutton Valence C 7-3.
Kings Hill E reinforced their lead at the top of Division 4 with a 10- 0 win at Barming K.
Sutton Valence D whitewashed the lowly Y Club to remain second while Larkfield E lost 6- 4 at Sutton Valence E.
Larkfield D and E both fell to 6- 4 defeats against Working Men’s D and Sutton Valence E respectively.
Maidstone league players Phil Thomas and Steve Day competed at the Bristol Grand Prix.
Thomas, who plays for Barming A, finished runner-up in the Band 4 final, losing to Welshman Lawrence John.
Kings Hill man Day made the Band 6 knockout stages but didn’t qualify from his Band 5 group.
Maidstone B drew at Folkestone A in the Kent League.
There were two singles wins each for captain Jill Shipton and Jim Howlett and they teamed up for a doubles success.
Yolanda King missed out on a second title at the Bristol Grand Prix as she had to catch a train.
Cranbrook player King won the Band 1 women’s singles by coming from two games down to beat England No.12 Sanja Clements in the final.
She also reached the final of the under-21 women’s singles but had to catch the last train back to Nottingham, where she goes to university. A young Weald TT Club team of Fraser Kent, 11, Tom Down, 12, and Arthur Bracken, nine, finished top of their sub-division in the National Cadet League at Tunbridge Wells.
