Martin completes comeback

Maidstone men’s 1sts recovered from a dismal first half with a superb comeback at Gore Court last Saturday.

They looked out of the South League Regional Kent/Sussex 1 game when trailing 3- 0 at the break but Greg Laurenson fired them up for the second half and they hit back to draw 4- 4.

Joe Martin launched the fightback, Jeremy Swaffer finished a short corner and Leon Webster added the third.

Martin scored the visitors’ fourth after fine work by man-of-the-match Steve Marks.

Louise Cassey scored the only goal as Maidstone ladies’ 1sts won 1- 0 at Crostyx in East Women’s League, Division 1 South.

Cassey deflected home after an excellent run and cross by Hannah Durston.

Maidstone retained possession well after the break, with Rhiannon Lavin working the ball nicely.

Catherine Green made impressive tackles and there were strong runs from forwards Laura Jackson, Lesley Price and Sophie Neale.

Lizzie McClintock’s hattrick helped the ladies beat Canterbury 5-1 in the Kent Cup on Sunday.

Maidstone were quick to put pressure on a young Canterbury side and Mc C l i n t o c k struck from a short corner.

Ma i d s t o n e men’s 4ths took the lead

against Sevenoaks 6ths in Kent Open Premier C but lost 5-1.

Despite missing several regulars they went in front through Andy Parkes before Oaks claimed a flattering victory. The men’s 5ths were 4-1 winners at Canterbury Friars in Kent Open Division 1.

An eight-pass move was finished by Zach Quinn for the opener. Simon Wood scored either side of a Ben Hartnell strike. Chris Howdon, Simon Emery and Harry Jarvis were superb in midfield.

Maidstone hosted a mixed under-10 tournament on Sunday. Folkestone won it but Louis Ramero, Max Thompson, George Cardwell and Harry O’Reilly played well for Maidstone.

Maidstone under-14s stepped up to take on Ashford under16s. They lost 6- 0 but played well against older opponents, with stand-out performanc­es from captain Chris Howson and man-of-the-match goalkeeper Jake Horton.
