Junction could be change for worse

-

As residents of Wilsley Green, Kent County Council has made us aware of a proposed change to the A229 junction by our houses, just south of the Sissinghurst roundabout near Cranbrook. This aims to reduce the number of HGVs entering the town by accident and is intended for delivery by the end of March 2015.

There are numerous problems with the current junction layout, but we feel the changes proposed could actually have an adverse effect on many of the tens of thousands of users of the junction (it is one of the main roads through the Weald), not just those living directly on top of it and cause more problems than it solves.

From talking to people in the local area and showing them the plans, it is clear that very few people using the junction each day are aware of the forthcoming change, and that many have specific concerns about whether traffic will be able to exit Cranbrook northbound via Waterloo Road easily and safely, as it does today.

In the interests of allowing as many people as possible a say in what they think the problems are and what solutions might best improve them, we have created an online survey at www.A229.org which we encourage all users of the junction (whether by road or on foot) to complete. All replies are anonymous and all feedback will be passed to Kent County Council.

We want to help make sure that any changes will be positive for all users of the junction. Ian Tester, Emma Tester, James Davey, Gaynor Davey WilsleyGreenSOS, Wilsley Green, Cranbrook
