Toffee cake wins school’s big bake-off

-

There was a sweet tooth or two in evidence when pupils whipped up a plethora of cakes. More than 100 students at Valley Park School Maidstone, entered a bake-off challenge , judged by Great British Bake-Off contestant Chetna Makan. Chetna, who lives in Broadstairs and was a semi finalist in the fifth series of the BBC show, visited the school earlier this month. Eleven-year-old George Mallion’s toffee cake was chosen as the winner. Chetna said: “The winning cake had really unusual flavours, and was very well baked and presented. It was brilliant that so many students took part, and they put in so much effort.” Correspondent: Pam Merryweather, 13 Fir Tree Grove, Bredhurst, ME7 3LB Tel: 01634 610011 pamerry@ outlook.com BWAG Christmas Market: Bredhurst Woodland Action Group (BWAG) and the 139 Club (baby and children’s charity) are holding a traditional Christmas Market in the garden of Green Court, The Street, on Sunday, November 30 from 1-6pm, admission £1, u16s free.
