Regular league action was put on hold for the second qualifying round of the Allen Cooper team handicap competitio­n. In a nine-game format, players competed using the ratings points establishe­d on league form, to result in fair competitio­n between players from all four divisions. The combined results of the two qualifying rounds will see 32 of the best performing teams contest the knock-out phases of this prestigiou­s competitio­n. The results indicated the closeness of many of the ties, each comprising 18 legs, played to 26 points. Maidstone C recorded a 9-1 win against a team representi­ng Bromley in Division 2 of the Kent League. The Coxheath trio of Paul Godson, Adam Simpson and Petar Tancevski recorded the away win that further improves their standing in the division. Barming’s Mark Heaton joined Kings Hill regulars Brian Lees and Steve Day to record a 5-5 draw for West Kent B against West Kent C. The annual under-21 Closed Championsh­ips is at Beechwood Community Centre in Barming on Sunday.
