Bulls stay positive
Aylesford took heart from their performance at Crowborough last Saturday.
Bulls fancied their chances of claiming their first London 2 South East win of the season after a pair of Lee Woodger penalties kept them in touch at 7- 6 down going into half-time.
Richard Garrett’s side were still in the hunt after an hour but three quick tries took the game away from them.
Bulls player Pete Webdale said: “It was a positive performance. At half-time the players thought we could go on to win.
“We were hoping to crack on in the second half and it was still close until they exploited a couple of gaps out wide. We let it go in the last 20 minutes but we have to take heart from it.”
Bulls chairman Frank Prescott announced a week ago the club won’t spend their way out of trouble – a stance Webdale and his team-mates agree with.
Webdale said: “We’re all behind the board. We could see some of the old players were in it for the money and that was starting to have a negative effect on the squad.
“We’d rather be a homegrown side without additional players coming in and we’re not in the position to do it anyway.”
With no points on the board, Bulls know they are facing a fight to stay up.
But Webdale believes the club’s youngsters have a big future. He said: “If we do go down, the plan would be to bounce straight back.
“It wouldn’t be a disaster. From a personal point of view, I don’t want to go down where I’m nearing the end of my career.”
Aylesford are without a game tomorrow (Saturday).
