Goals galore as Kings Hill girls have field day

-

Kings Hill FC’s girls’ Player Development Centre played their first matches on Saturday.

Tunbridge Wells Foresters were the opposition and Kings Hill formed two teams – under-9s and under-11s – playing a 5-a-side format.

The under-9s were beaten 6-5 but the under-11s won 9-1.

Chairman Dan Mason said: “It was fun, it was frantic. There were lots of substitutions and changes to ensure everyone played their part.

“There were saves, there were goals and there was a hat-trick but, most importantly, there were huge smiles at the end and great fun was had.

“Some of the football was outstanding with some wonderful passing goals.

“Every one of the girls was a credit to themselves, their parents and Kings Hill Football Club.”

And reflecting on the big day, Mr Mason added: “As a coach for six years, I can honestly say that is the most fun I have had.” Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm knows his team will be unfancied this weekend but is backing them to spring a surprise. Conference South promotion chasers Bromley are the visitors to Longmead tomorrow (Saturday) in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy. “We will be the underdogs even though we are playing at home,” said McKimm. “But we’ve done our homework on them and had them watched. We know what to do and we’ve spotted a few weaknesses, although there are not many. “Bromley fans will be expecting their team to beat us but hopefully we can upset a few of them. “The squad hasn’t let me down too often when it comes to desire and work-rate and if we can add that bit of quality, which we have, we can open up any team.” Angels’ overall form of late has been good, with a 3-0 win over VCD in the league last weekend making it four victories on the bounce for McKimm’s Ryman League, Premier Division side. Dee Okojie, Alex Teniola and Flavio Tavares scored against VCD. The three previous wins were in the cup and McKimm was delighted to pick up maximum league points for the first time in five league outings. “It was a good performance and we deserved it,” said the manager. “We had been doing OK in the cup and not too bad in the league but we were just losing by the odd goal. “The team are confident and with Jerrome Sobers and Chris Piper both back recently, that extra experience has helped.” Angels last week released striker Owen Kabodi, who has since joined Chatham Town.
