Mote Park to host new two-day festival

-

A new music festival expected to bring a £700,000 boost to Maidstone will take place in Mote Park in the summer.

The two-day Ramblin’ Man Fair will feature a variety of bands performing classic rock, progressive rock, country and blues.

It will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26 with prices starting at £55 per person.

Performers signed up so far include Gregg Allman, part of the band behind the Top Gear title song.

German rock band Scorpions, who have had three top 20 albums in the UK, have signed up as has British band Jethro Tull, whose album Stand Up was number one in this country in 1969.

Cllr Malcolm Greer (Con) welcomed the idea.

The cabinet member for economic and commercial development, said: “We are delighted organisers, The Rock Collective, has chosen Mote Park.

“It is expected to bring in at least £700,000 into Maidstone’s economy not including accommodation or travel – a fantastic boost for our town.”

He said organisers would be get- ting in touch with residents closest to the venue nearer the time with more details and they had a lot of experience of running events of this size.

Other acts include Camel, Marillion, Pendragaon, Riverise, Messenger and The Pineapple Thief.

Mote Park is no stranger to large concerts – in 2008 Madonna, Usher and Fat Boy Slim all played as part of Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

A beer festival is set to run alongside the music.

An initial batch of early-bird general admission and VIP weekend and day tickets are now available from www. ticketmaster.co.uk

An early-bird day ticket is £55 (plus £5.50 booking fee) and a weekend ticket is currently priced at £99 (with a £9.99 booking fee).
