messengernews@thekmgroup.co.uk An addict claimed he was such a heavy user of cocaine that the bulk of the drug found on him and at his home was going up his own nose and not to others.

Greig Hastings told a judge he would use about four grams of cocaine a day and owed dealers £10,000.

The 29-year-old self-employed window-cleaner was arrested outside a Maidstone nightclub after he was seen staggering around and harassing people.

Police seized six wraps from him and another 23 grams from his home.

Hastings, of Hardy Street, Maidstone, admitted possessing drugs with intent to supply but claimed he only sold it to a few friends.

Judge Martin Joy jailed him for three years after finding he was an unsatisfactory witness and dismissing his claims.

Prosecutor Paul Jackson said Hastings was initially arrested for being drunk and disorderly on August 26 last year.

When searched, the wraps were found in his pocket.

Mr Jackson told Maidstone Crown Court just under 20 grams of cocaine was discovered in a locked safe at Hastings’s home. Another 3.73 grams of the drug were seized, along with small amounts of ecstasy (MDMA).

The collective street value was £2,000.

The court heard that Hastings’ body was riddled with cocaine.

Judge Joy said he accepted Hastings was making progress in dealing with his addiction but added: “He has not faced up to the true position that he was acting as a drug-dealer.”

Hastings said of the day of his arrest: “I was out for the whole night and I intended to party through the night and probably the next day as well.

“I was not going to sell any drugs that night. I was not in a fit state to do anything. Most of the drugs in the flat I would use for myself. I would sell the rest to friends.”

A “tick list” he had was, he claimed, for people who owed him money for window-cleaning and poker games.

He added: “Yes, I was dealing drugs. I wasn’t going to deal all of them.”
