Kent Messenger Maidstone

This month’s weather will be...

-

Kent’s amateur weather man, Lester Gosbee, takes a monthly look at what could be in store for us. December will have a cold start with spells of rain, plus a cold easterly wind. Temperatures will be down to 7C (mid 40Fs). A mini-ridge of high pressure will give us a couple of fine days with sharp frosts at night. From 6th to 7th, low pressure will spread bands of rain across much of the UK. Winds could be close to gale force at times from the north west. Temperatures will be at 7-8C (45-46F). From 13th until 20th, there will be spells of heavy rain mixed with strong to gale force winds. There will be some drier spells in between. Temperatures will be at 10C (50F), so less cold and slightly above normal. Winds will be south westerly to westerly. Winds will not have the ferocity that we saw last year. Between 21st and 31st, there will be some drier weather over the Christmas period with frost and fog. It will be rather cold at 5C (41F), possibly the coldest Christmas since 2010, and a complete change to last Christmas Eve’s storms. There will be more wet, windy weather after Christmas, turning mild for a time with temperatures up to 12C (54F) along the south coast. There will be some frosts with temperatures down to -4C (25F), but there will be the odd extreme temperature. It will be the coldest month of the year. There could be a white Christmas, even here, but the snow is not expected to lay. If you would like a free copy of a more detailed six monthly weather forecast, email me after December 15 and I will email/ post you a copy.
