lester.gosbee@btinternet.com It has been a cold and wet week in our part of the world. This autumn has been the third warmest on record at 10.8C (51.44F). The warmest was 2006, followed by 2011. In England, rainfall was average. Very little rain fell in September and sunshine was also average. November was very wet here with 141mm (5.74 inches), the second wettest month of the year after February which had 173mm (almost 7 inches). Only August averaged below normal. This year I think December will be the next month with average rainfall. Today (Friday): A cold start with some patchy frost in the countryside, but towns will remain frost-free. We should see some sunshine, which will make it more pleasant. In fact, temperatures will be lower at 5C (41F). Winds will be easterly at 8-12mph. Tomorrow (Saturday): The day will start with a frost, the sharpest of the winter so far for some at -2 to -3C (28-27F) in the countryside and close to freezing 0C (32F) in towns. It will be a lovely sunny day, but decidedly chilly at 5C (41F) at best. Winds will be northerly at 6-10mph. There will be a frost before midnight. Sunday: A cloudy start with some heavy spells of rain. This should clear and it will be fine for the rest of the day with some sunny spells. It will be a little milder at 9C (48F), close to average. Winds will be north westerly at 7-11mph. Monday and Tuesday: Pressure will remain relatively high, with only local frosts in well sheltered parts. There will be some sunny spells, but also the risk of a shower. Temperatures will be at 7-8C (45-46F), a little below average. Winds will be northerly at 5-10mph. Wednesday and Thursday: Low pressure will allow bands of rain to cross us. There will be some heavy spells of rain at times, followed by blustery winds and squally showers. It will still be on the cold side at 7C (45F). Winds will be westerly to north westerly with gusts up to 30mph, otherwise 12-18mph.
