Fitness fanatics set for epic non-stop walking challenge

A pair of fundraisers are tackling a non-stop 65-mile walk for charity.

Best friends Emma Rayfield and Hannah White are part of Love My Fitness, a team set to take part in the Isle of Wight Ultra challenge – a continuous walk around the coastal paths of the island.

To raise money for their chosen charities, the fitness fanatics opted for the full-island course, which should take between 24 and 30 hours to complete.

There are no overnight stops, just rest points.

The pair, who both attended Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, have been training since August to try and complete three training walks a week. They tackle between five and 10 miles each time, in the Ditton and Larkfield areas.

Ms Rayfield, from Lenham, an occupational therapist at Abbey Court School, in Rainham, said: “We have been training hard. You will often see us looping down the Tonbridge Road to Maidstone and back up the London Road.”

“We will travel straight from work to the Isle of Wight to begin the challenge early on Saturday April 30, and will have hopefully completed the full 65 miles by midday Sunday.”

Ms Rayfield, along with other members of the team, are taking part in the challenge for The Alzheimer’s Society, whereas Ms White, from Maidstone, is donating her proceeds to Cardiac Risk in the Young – a charity supporting young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions.

The Isle of White Ultimate Challenge takes place between April 30 and May 1. Visit tinyurl.com/ultimatewalk or tinyurl.com/hannahCRY to find out more and donate.
