Join in the six-part series. Identity; who is Jesus is the sub-title of this gathering which starts at 7.45pm on Thursday, June 16, and includes refreshments. Ask Wil about it by calling him on 01622 726263 or email revwilnorth@hotmail.co.uk Note: This is a series of six meetings on successive Thursdays with the exception of June 23 when there is no meeting (something about a referendum on that day). Cleaning up: Regular users and visitors to St Margaret’s Church often comment favourably on the building’s cleanliness. Now that doesn’t come about by accident or by magic. Can you spare time to help? Cleaning is done weekly but because a rota system is used it means that volunteers are needed for just two hours every four or five weeks. This is based on having five two-person teams and this necessary work can be fun. Want to give it a try? Call 01622 728618 and talk with Zal. Breakfast is ready: Ladies can look forward to the meal from 8.30am on Saturday, June 11 in the rectory followed by a half-hour discussion. Mmm magic: Midsummer Music at St Margaret’s is the title of a concert to be staged in the church on Saturday, June 25 from 7pm. St Margaret’s Brass Band and supporting local soloists will be featured. What’s this: Scenes of violence will be evident in St Margaret’s Church on Saturday, June 11. No, this is not a routine meeting but a film where a few rough and tumbles provides some exciting and spectacular scenes. Note: A few people may find some of the violence is upsetting. An interval will be included for refreshments but you are welcome to bring your own if desired. The curtain will go up at 7pm promptly with admission from 6.45pm. Another fine mess: It’s a fun and informal way for all the family to worship. It’s in the village hall, Heath Road on Sunday, June 12 from 4pm-5.15pm. Either go along or for information phone 01622 726263 and talk to Wil or email revwilnorth@hotmail.co.uk Funday: Free tea and cake awaits those celebrating the Queen’s birthday at a family fun afternoon from 2.30pm-4.30pm on Saturday, June 11 at St Andrew’s Church. Bearsted and Thurnham WI: At the May meeting, Ann-Marie Kelly, director of income at Heart of Kent Hospice, spoke on the Hospice Movement. In 2016 the Hospice is celebrating 25 years of compassionate care. It costs £4 million each year to run the Hospice, which is a registered independent charity. A NHS grant of around £900,000 is received and the remainder is generated through donations and fundraising including the weekly lottery, Light up a Life, the café in Maidstone, its 14 shops across Kent plus an eBay store to name a few. As well as the 10 bed inpatient unit, it provides care at home and runs Magnolia Place which provides a facility for patients to access a broad range of services. 600 volunteers are involved (training is given where necessary) and more recruits are always welcome. The audience was unaware that the Hospice was so involved with dementia patients but agreed it was a much needed service. A Dementia Café is run at the Hospice from 10.30am-12.30pm on the first Saturday of the month. There is a Drop-In Centre at the Hospice on Mondays from 10am-12.30pm and is open to patients suffering from long term illnesses and their families/carers. Ann-Marie’s enthusiasm for the Hospice Movement came across very strongly, her talk was well received and raised a lot of questions.
