What will July bring us?

- with LESTER GOSBEE lester.gosbee@btinternet.com

June 23 was the day that the UK voted to leave the European Union, but for many, it was also the wettest day of the year so far with 35 - 45mm/ 1.40 - 1.80 inches of rain. It has been a nightmare for farmers trying to make hay or silage, and awful for cherry and soft fruit growers. The one plus point was that Frittenden was the warmest place in the UK on Monday (27th) with a temperature of 23.9 c/ 75.02 f. FRIDAY - New month, but same old weather. It will be a mostly overcast day, with only a little drizzle at times, mixed with a little brightness. It will be breezy from the South West at 12 - 20mph. Last year, 1st July set a new UK record at Heathrow, London with a temperature of 36.7 c/ 98.62 f, this July 1 it will be 20 c/ 68 f at the very best. SATURDAY - A day of sunshine and showers, heavy and possibly thundery at times. We may still get 8 hours of sunshine, so better than most days recently. It will still be breezy from the South West with winds of 12 - 18mph with temperatures at 21 c/ 70 f in the sunny spells. SUNDAY - There will be more cloud about through the day, but also some brightness at times, plus the risk of showers that may merge into longer spells of rain. Winds will be south westerly at 8 - 16mph with temperatures at 19 c/ 66 f. MONDAY to THURSDAY - High pressure over the Azores will move closer, which will help to give Monday and Tuesday fine days with broken cloud, and just the outside risk of a shower. Wednesday and Thursday will turn humid with the risk of some heavy thundery showers. Winds will be Southerly and light and temperatures will be 21 - 25 c/ 70 - 77 f, even higher temperatures when humidity comes
