Sara-Jane Ladbrooke will be addressing the topic of Mud Larking at the meeting, and the competitio­n will be for something dug from the ground. New members and visitors are welcome. Ladies at Laddingfor­d: Monday July 11, will be a special day for ladies at The Chequers in Laddingfor­d. Kind-hearted shoppers have raised nearly £4,800 for the Heart of Kent Hospice over the last year. The Aylesford charity received a cheque on Tuesday at Sainsbury’s in Romney Place, Maidstone. The hospice was the Maidstone supermarke­t’s charity of the year. Money was raised with a balloon From 2-4pm the art and craft group will be sharing ideas and experience as they work on their latest craft projects along with tea and cakes at £2.50 per head. From 7-9.30pm, a special summer Ladies Night with summer punch and strawberri­es and cream, along with a raffle and a couple of exciting stalls will give ladies an opportunit­y to relax with friends or make new ones. School news: The Wig Day, when children wore wigs or had funny hair in support of CLIC, a charity helping children with cancer, raised £151. The rounders tournament at Laddingfor­d School had to be cancelled due to the weather. Monday, July 11, will be a staff developmen­t day, so that the children will enjoy a long weekend. Marden walks: On Saturday July 9, walkers will meet at 2pm at Marden library to share cars to Teston to walk and picnic beside the River Medway. Then on Saturday, July 16 at 2pm from Marden library, they will meet to share cars to Mote Park for a walk, followed by a visit to the café. Hard working Woodpecker­s: The Woodpecker­s churchyard tidying group met on July 2, and spent much of the time trimming the long hedgerow which borders Green Lane. Everyone worked well together and the trimmings were release and donations. Store spokesman Alice Worthy said: “It is such a great achievemen­t. The challenge is to read six books over the summer holidays and every time a child finishes a book, they get stickers and rewards and there’s a certificat­e for everyone who finishes. Pop into the library for informatio­n. Church coffee morning: The monthly coffee morning, in aid of Holy Trinity Church, is on Saturday, July 9 at the Scout hut in Westerhill Road from 10am-noon. Everybody is welcome. Community warden surgeries: Also, at the coffee morning, Adam McKinley, our community warden, will be there for you to raise any issues you may have and think he can help. Gardening club: The next meeting is on Tuesday July 12 at the Scout hut in Westerhill Road, beginning at 7.30pm. Don’t worry if you don’t know a nettle from a nicotiana or chickweed from crocus - you will find that this is a group to help by meeting up once a month to swap plants and informatio­n, discuss ideas, seek advice.
