Pitch perfect for telly opener
Here is the new pitch that will make history on the opening day of the football season. When Maidstone take on York in front of the BT Sport cameras on Saturday, August 6, it will be the first time a National League game has been played on 3G.
Contractors have spent this week laying Maidstone’s new pitch after the club’s directors decided to replace the original 3G a year early, in preparation for National League football.
Meanwhile, Maidstone fans have raised almost £ 5,000 towards the cost of a new stand at the Gallagher.
The club launched a fundraising appeal last Thursday night when supporters were shown pictures and a video of the proposed 1,750-capacity Springfield End terrace. United set fans a target of £ 50,000 and as the
went to press, the Stand up for the Stones appeal had made £4,900.
Chief executive Bill Williams said: “Thank you to everyone who’s pledged so far and those who have indicated they will.
“Let’s see if we can hit this £ 50,000 target in the coming months and get the terracing named The Fans’ Stand.”
The new stand is expected to cost £ 600,000 and will take capacity at the Gallagher past 4,000.
Maidstone must finish the work by the National League deadline of March 31.
Fans who pledge £ 5 or more will receive a campaign pin badge, supporters donating £ 20 get the chance to be part of a photo montage, while £ 50 contributions will be recognised on an honours board.
Donations can be made via the club website or by calling the office on 01622 753817.
