Charged with stabbing staff

-

A man has appeared in court charged with two counts of attempted murder after two members of staff suffered serious injuries at a mental health centre.

Myha Grant, 30, of no fixed address, was arrested at the Bracton Centre in Dartford after police were called to a disturbance just before noon on Sunday.

He appeared before Medway magistrates on Tuesday morning via video link from a police station.

Grant is also accused of one count of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at the centre at about the same time.

It is alleged he stabbed both members of staff multiple times – one of them at least 10 times – with a knife from a kitchen area where food was being prepared, the court heard.

He is then said to have set light to some papers.

Grant was remanded in custody until August 16, when he will appear at Maidstone Crown Court.

No pleas were entered in relation to the charges.

The injured staff are both men and were taken to King’s College Hospital in London with injuries.

A spokesman for the NHS Oxleas Foundation Trust, which runs the centre in Bracton Lane, said they were supporting the families of both men.
