Cake and zumba for May, 102

-

Two years after celebrating the centenary of her birth, great-grandmother May Hammond enjoyed another milestone birthday at Abbotsleigh Care Home last week.

Daughter-in-law Barbara Hammond, and staff from the home in Staplehurst, helped Mrs Hammond celebrate her special day with cake and cards, followed by a zumba session in the afternoon.

Born on the eve of the First World War in 1914, the former school secretary from Marden has two sons and seven great-grandchildren. When she celebrated her 100th birthday, she was joined by family from across the country.

Paula Smy, of the care home, said: “She is still happy and very polite – an all round lovely lady. She is our oldest resident but still more active than some who are younger than her. She always takes part in any of the activities going on.”
