Harvey takes centre stage

Kent League

-

Tom Harvey enjoyed his best day since rejoining The Mote, scoring a century and taking four wickets last weekend.

His efforts led The Mote to an 80-run success over Hayes which moves Alex Fordham’s side up to third in Division 1, ahead of a home game against bottom side Gore Court tomorrow (Saturday).

Former skipper Harvey finished on 129 not out while James Marriott was unbeaten on 53 as The Mote closed 50 overs on 260- 4.

Harvey then took 4- 48 from 9.1 overs, with Hayes 180 all out in reply. Captain Fordham was happy for Harvey but felt The Mote let their standards drop in the field.

He said: “We put a score on the board, over 250, which is what I asked for and Tom carried his bat for 129.

“By his own admission he’s not scored the runs he wanted to since he came back so I’m pleased for him and for James Marriott, who scored at more than a run a ball.

“But we bowled and fielded poorly against a poor Hayes side who could go down. We needed to be more dominant and bowl them out for 150.

“At times, when the opposition are inferior, you can go down to their level and that’s what happened. It’s a good reality check for us.”

Leeds & Broomfield slipped to sixth in Division 3 after a 19-run defeat at Catford & Cyphers.

Adrian Samson claimed 3-23 as Catford were restricted to 159-9.

Richard Turner (55) and Max Aitken (46) put on 87 as Leeds recovered from 3-2 but they were all out for 140.

It was Ben Gittings’ turn to score big as Offham beat Old Colfeians in Division 4.

He followed brother Tom’s century last week by hitting 105 from 136 balls, with 14 fours and three sixes, to help Offham close on 227-7.

Opening bowler Harry Legg claimed 5- 43 as Colfeians struggled to 121-8, Offham winners by 106 runs.

Daniel Blakeburn starred in Addington Village’s victory over Downham & Bellingham.

He removed the top four on his way to figures of 5-27 as Downham were bowled out for 118 in reply to 179- 6.

David Grinstead (53 not) top scored for the Villagers, who won by 61 runs.

The Mote 2nds beat Blackheath 2nds by seven wickets in Division 1. Laurence Waters (5-24) impressed as Blackheath were bowled out for 126.

Dan Taylor hit nine fours in a knock of 45 to lead his team home.

Addington Village 2nds forfeited their Division 4 game against Faversham while, in Division 5, Offham 2nds batted out a losing draw at Shooters Hil.

Set 262 for victory, a gritty 30 from 107 balls by captain Graham Razey helped Offham fend off the home attack and close on 138- 6.
