DEFENDER ON TRANSFER LIST

Acheampong’s come in too and we’ve also got Jamie Coyle, so that’s three good centre-halves.

“Callum’s a good player and a good lad but the others are ahead of him.

“His attitude’s been good. He’s said ‘I want to try and prove you wrong’ and I like that.

“I’d much rather he said that than giving up. We worked hard to get him in but sometimes it doesn’t quite work out.

“That’s the feeling I’ve got and I don’t want to take someone all over the country to sit on the bench or in the stand, which is why I’ve told him it might be best he finds somewhere else.

“We’ve heard back from a couple of clubs so far.”

Maidstone play on their new 3G pitch for the first time tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm) when Concord visit the Gallagher for a pre-season friendly. Fans are invited to pay whatever they want to watch, with all proceeds going to the north stand fundraising campaign, which is approaching £10,000.

Stones go to Leatherhead on Tuesday and Faversham on Thursday (both 7.45pm) but have been frustrated in attempts to secure a home friendly next Saturday.

Saunders said: “We’re finding it hard to get a game on the 30th.

“It’s important we’re at home because we need to get used to the new pitch.

“We thought we had Charlton and Crystal Palace but both pulled out, then we thought we had Swindon but they pulled out as well.

“We’re waiting on one more club but if nothing happens we’ll have a training game instead and go strong at Leatherhead and Faversham.”
