Monthly tea party: The single retired ladies of the village had a lovely afternoon tea in the beautiful walled garden at Den Farm on July 6. The weather was perfect as they enjoyed a stroll around Jo Doctor’s colourful garden. What a treat! Flood risk management: The flood wardens were all invited to a thank you lunch on July 18 at Yalding Village Hall. The help of the many volunteers who undertake this vital role is much appreciated. At the Kent Flood Risk Management Committee meeting which followed, parish clerk David Goff spoke clearly about the situation regarding flooding in the parish. However, the meeting was much more about how we cope with flooding than how we prevent it. It seemed to be assumed that the money promised in 2014 for the barrier at Style Bridge is no longer available in its entirety. Saturday stroll: To join the Marden group of walkers on Saturday July 23, meet at 2pm at Marden library to share cars for a short drive to Loose Valley for a delightful Saturday stroll around the lovely village. 2017 calendars: Marden Motor Club is creating calendars for 2017, using some of the pictures taken at last year’s fundraising event. The calendars cost £12 each and are available from the club secretary, Colin Addison, on 01622 831471. Church concert: An appreciative audience attended St Margaret’s Church last Saturday evening for the last of the summer season concerts, aptly called A Choral Summer’s Evening. The celebrated Chancel Singers provided delightful choral works from across the centuries, and the church community thanks them all and Ian Turner for all their hard work. Proceeds go to the church fabric fund. Time to play: With the schools closing for the summer this week, families will be looking for places to go. Close to home is the Hop Farm where summer fun is available every day from July 23 from 10am. Hopper the rabbit and all his friends will be waiting to delight your family. Check the website www.thehopfarm.co.uk/events. Also the Yalding Summer Playscheme starts at Yalding School on Monday July 25 at 11am-3pm each weekday for three weeks. Places are available each day on a first come first served basis. For full details, contact Angela Gent, clerk to Yalding Parish Council on 01622 814134 or supervisor, Linda Gilbert on 07970 981794. WI lunching ladies: On Thursday July 28 from 12.30pm ladies of the Yalding and District WI will be getting together for lunch at Brookers Oast at the Hop Farm.
