Enjoyable day spoilt by the journey

-

I would like all those people who believe there is no need for a second crossing to hear about what happened to us on Saturday.

We set off at around 12.30pm to attend a wedding in the village of Ingatestone in Essex, a journey my satnav tells me is 45 miles. However because of congestion around the crossing the journey took 1.5 hours.

However worse was to come. We set off for home at around 8.20pm, and the initial part of the journey was very good on a beautiful summer’s evening, even on the M25. We passed a sign telling us that there was six miles to the crossing and it would take us eight minutes. Then all of a sudden we stopped just after 9pm.

There was nothing telling us what the problem was, and it was getting dark.

At each stop we made we were stationary for at least 20 minutes before we would then move a short distance.

It was only when we cleared the junction with the A13 that we started to move at any speed.

The sheer volume of traffic on that stretch of the M25 and coming on and going off at that junction was unbelievable. All the time there was nothing to tell us what was happening or any sign of police or highway patrols.

We eventually arrived home at 11.20pm. Three hours to do 45 miles on a Saturday evening. What had been an enjoyable day spoilt by that dreadful road.

I really do hope that we are not going to have to wait as long as “the extra runway” decision before the people of Kent are released from the stranglehold that is the M25. Don and Jenny Wright Willington Street, Maidstone
