The Azores high pressure will influence our weather for the next five days, turning hot for the second time this year early next week. Today (Friday): August 12, known as The Glorious 12th as the grouse shooting season starts in Scotland. It will be glorious weatherwise with almost unbroken sunshine and a light southerly breeze of 3-8mph and temperatures at 24C (75F). Tomorrow (Saturday): A very similar day to Friday, but with just a little fair weather cloud around. Winds will stay southerly at 4-10mph with temperatures at 24-25C (75-77F) and night minimum temperatures of 12C (54F) close to average. Sunday: Remaining warm with sunny spells. There will be a bit more cloud about at times and a small risk of a local shower. Winds will be south westerly at 3-11mph with temperatures at 23-24C (73-75F). Monday: A very warm day with increasing amounts of sunshine. It will become humid in the south easterly breeze of 2-8mph with temperatures inland of 26-28C (79-82F). Tuesday: A day of almost unbroken sunshine, with clear blue skies and very hot sunshine in humid conditions. Winds will be south easterly at 6-14mph and temperatures will be high at 29-31C(84-88F), possibly even reching 32.2C (90F) locally. Wednesday: Another hot sunny day, very humid too in many places. The day will start with temperatures of 18C (64F), then temperatures will soar to 30C (86F). There will be increasing cloud and thundery activity late afternoon onwards. Winds will be gusty locally from the south east. Thursday: The day will have a very cloudy start and there will still be some rain around. This should clear by mid morning. It will be much fresher with sunny spells. Winds will be southerly at 4-10mph with temperatures at 24C (75F). Retired in Aylesford: Are you retired and living in the Aylesford area? London to Paris: Heart of Kent Hospice is offering cyclists the experience of riding between two of the world’s most iconic cities - London and Paris from September 9-13. This charity bike ride challenge will take you through beautiful English villages and into the stunning countryside of rural France . You will pass historical landmarks and famous battlefields of the First World War until you reach Paris. No doubt guest speaker Heather Silk will explain the reasoning for the title when she addresses the meeting which will start at 7.30pm on Monday, August 15 in the village hall, Heath Road. Nonmembers are welcome on payment of £2. It is a laughing matter: The film to be shown in St Margaret’s on Saturday, August 20, is reputedly very funny and thought-provoking. Doors open at 6.45pm in preparation for a prompt 7pm start. No entry charge is made although donations for church funds will be appreciated. There will be an interval in which refreshments will be available but those attending are welcome to take their own. Temporary road closure: A damaged masonry bridge parapet at Teston will necessitate reconstruction work to be carried out by KCC Highways. Up to three weeks from August 22 has provisionally been allowed for the work which will close the B2163 Teston Lane, resulting in no access for through traffic between the junctions with A26 Tonbridge Road and B2010 Lower Road. The alternative route is via A26 Tonbridge Road, B2015 Bow Road/Maidstone Road, B2162 Hampstead Lane/Benover Road, B2010 High Street/Yalding Hill/ Smith’s Hill/Lower Road. On Sunday, August 21,Teston Lane will be closed from 2am-6pm to enable an inspection of the level crossing and to replace the sleepers by Network Rail. The suggested alternative route is via A26 Tonbridge Road, Farleigh Lane, Station Road and B2010 Lower Road.
