dent notified members that she was experiencing difficulties in getting land adjacent to her property in Sandling maintained by KCC. Weavering Orchard Park Run: The clerk’s report was received and noted and discussion took place regarding a park fun. The request from Grove Green Scouts was for a regularly organised activity that all ages could attend. Weavering Community Orchard was considered too small to accommodate any large social event, but Weavering Heath might be a better location and the parish council could liaise with MBC to obtain permission to use it. Members agreed that the parish council would liaise with the Scout Group and offer support and assistance for any event that was suggested but that it would not itself arrange an event. Parish council notice boards: Councillors volunteered to keep local notice boards up to date. Sandling Village notice board would be looked after by a local resident. Civic regalia: The Chief Executive of Kent Wildlife Trust invited the chairman of parish council to the unveiling of the kestral boxes and asked that he wear his civic regalia. It was explained that there is no civic regalia for Boxley Parish Council, which the executive said was a shame. This issue had been raised some years before but nothing happened. Members considered the suggestion that a chairman’s badge of office be purchased. The cost of lapel badges would be investigated and discussed at a later date. Planning permission: On August 4, the borough council’s planning committee agreed to a proposed housing development at Bentlett’s Farm in Claygate Road. Used as a yard for scrapping HGVs, this site has permission for 25 houses and garages to be built by Wealdon Homes. Maidstone planning officers held lengthy discussions with Wealden Homes about the style and character of these new homes which they want to reflect the character of Kent buildings in the nearby locality. PARISH COUNCIL: On August 5, parish council chairman Barbara Grandi met with personnel from KCC Highways to discuss the many issues and problems that residents often raise within the parish. Unfortunately excessive funding cut backs have already impacted on KCC Highways’ budgets and more cuts are coming next year. Nevertheless, Highways steward Claire Chewter has agreed to investigate ongoing problems such as increased mud on the roads, damaged road surfaces and spoiled verges in Haviker Street. Busy Woodpeckers: The churchyard tidying group met on August 6, when they trimmed the grass in all parts of the churchyard and laid bark chippings over the freshly weeded rose bed. Big love fest: A good fundraising event in support of pancreatic cancer was held on August 6 at Moat Farm. The ticketed event was attended by more than 150 visitors who thoroughly enjoyed the fun activities, food and live bands. Organisers Simon and Jeannie Hill were delighted to make almost £6,000 for the charity that is close to their hearts. If you would like to contribute to this cause, you can do so by visiting Just Giving: Jeannie’s The Big Love Moat Fest. GamBLE barbecue: The annual GamBLE BBQ takes place at Thatchers in Benover Road, Yalding on Sunday, August 28 from noon. Live music, plenty to eat and drink and a charity stall will make this a great family day. Tickets in advance are at lower prices than on the door. Call 01622 814267 for details and tickets. A family ticket for two adults and two children costs £20 in advance.
