Diversions will be in place during the repairs which could take up to three weeks. Yum yum: Go along to the village’s beautiful old church and enjoy a cream tea. Home-made cakes and scones are being served on Thursday August 18 from 2-4pm. Needles clicking: The next meeting of the Crafters coffee mornings is on Wednesday, August 17 from 10.30am-noon in the church. Many of those attending have revived their interest in knitting, sewing or crochet and work on various items like squares for blankets, items for premature babies and hats for homeless people. However others just go along and enjoy a natter and a piece of home-made cake. Everyone is welcome. Meet the Guardians: On Sunday, August 14 at 10am, the visiting priests are Revs Viv and Tim Ashworth, the new guardians of The Pilsdon Community at West Malling. This is an opportunity to meet them over coffee after the service. Correspondent: Maureen Jopson, 68 Stockett Lane, Coxheath, ME17 4PY Tel: 01622 746086 joplot8@ hotmail.co.uk Road closure: Teston Lane will be closed for up to three weeks, from August 22, for repairs to Teston bridge. Life-line: Do you have anything you would like in the next edition of Life-Line? If so, details must be in by August 17, at the latest, to editor@farleighevents.com PARISH COUNCIL: There have been four reported crimes; two thefts by finding, a burglary and attempted burglary other than dwelling. Teston Bridge. In view of the recent damage, there was much discussion as to how lorries can be prevented from going over Teston Bridge. A meeting will be held with Teston, East Farleigh and West Farleigh parish councils. It was suggested that a physical width restriction seemed best but this would prevent public service vehicles, fire engines, ambulances, etc from crossing. The roundabout was to be moved from the play area as it has never worked properly. A rotabounce was being investigated. The state of the verges in the village caused a heated discussion because KCC had cut back on how often they are cut back and sight lines in the village have been much reduced this year. It was felt that its recent efforts were a mess. The parish council was hoping to come up with a way of doing it itself without it costing too much. As the coffee mornings were not well attended, it was decided that they would be held every three months, in the hope of getting more support. Buses: Nu Venture had a revised time table. Most times are unaltered but the no 23, scheduled to leave Maidstone at 1437, will now leave 30 earlier at 1407. Volunteers qanted: Brian Cushing is seeking volunteers to help out collecting for the RNLI at the Tovil branch of Tesco on Sunday, August 21. If you have an hour (or more) to spare, between 10am and 4pm, contact Brian on 075683 63828 or brian02@hotmail.com Thanks: Thanks have been given to Tim and Christine for editing Life-Line for so long and, also, good wishes for happiness in their new home. Thanks have, also, been given to Brian Cushing and Terry Baines for organising litter picks around the village. Play scheme: The scheme continues to flourish into its final week following the barbecue provided by the parish council on August 5. Monday saw the 30 children making French bread pizzas for their lunch, and at The Kintons, in the afternoon, they revelled in shaving foam fun! Tuesday and Wednesday will be Olympic days with stilt walking, sack racing etc as the children wave the flags and banners they have already made. On Thursday, Ollie the tennis coach is coming, along with Shana with her hula hoops. The final day of the scheme will be Friday August 12 , with a closing party, with special guest Marli the magician winding up the scheme. Linda and her helpers, who this week include Alison, Jade and Grace, really have made this a fun filled time for a happy band of children. Thanks go to the parish council for all their support. Who’s for cricket: The cricket club side was made to toil in the heat last Saturday when they fell to defeat by Holmesdale in their Kent Regional Cricket League fixture. Better luck on Saturday August 13 when the team faces Headcorn at The Kintons. Meetings about flooding: Members of the Medway, Beult and Teise group were due to meet MP Helen Grant on August 11, along with members of Collier Street Parish Council. On Friday August 12, the group will be meeting Neil Gunn of the Environment Agency. Hopefully some of our many questions and issues can be raised and discussed, with positive outcomes. Photography workshop: Local photographer David Jenner has two places left for his workshop on Saturday and Sunday august 13-14 at the Riverside Gallery. The shoot workshop will take place from 6.30-9pm on Saturday, with the editing session on Sunday from 10am-12.30pm. This is landscape photography and participants will need a DSLR or Bridge camera. NB family tickets for the barbecue are reduced to £20 for two adults and two children when booked. Baptist events: On Sunday August 13 at 10.30am, Holy Communion will take place along with Treasure Seekers Sunday School for the youngsters, at the Baptist Church. On Thursday August 18, the Chat-aWhile coffee and craft morning will start at 10.30am. All welcome. Music at George: On Saturday, August 13 from 9pm until midnight, Les will be returning to The George with SKA Reggae, and then on Saturday August 20, the Johnny Green Blues band will feature from 8.45-11pm. Always good food and drink in a welcoming atmosphere for all comers. Teston Lane closure: From Monday August 22, Teston Lane will be closed for up to three weeks to allow for reconstruction of damaged masonry at Teston Bridge. Village Pensioners’ Club: Pensioners will meet on Tuesday August 16 from 2-4pm at the Social Club. At the last meeting, memories were well and truly stirred as Gwen Milton shared her photographs of a British Legion pantomime performed in Yalding in 1964. New members and visitors are welcome to join in with bingo, chat, refreshments and maybe memories. Cream tea profits: Roma Farrier and Doreen Creasy wish to thank all their supporters who helped and attended the delightful cream tea in memory of Sheila Lister two weeks ago. They raised £400 for the RNLI. This included £70 from donations for Sheila’s pieces of china in their various forms. Roma and Doreen apologise that the restriction on numbers meant they could not invite all their loyal friends, and they hope to see them at their next event which should be a wine and cheese evening.
